چکیده

In this paper, the cladding of pure aluminum and a low-carbon steel alloy was performed through friction stir processing with minimal intermetallic compound formation. A 3 mm thick plate clamped on top plate. thick, copper used as backing The tool pin length adjusted to be same upper plate’s thickness (3 mm) longer than 3.2 mm. effect rotation speed (500–1500 rpm) cladding’s quality, microstructure, mechanical properties steel/aluminum interface were investigated using optical scanning electron microscopy, hardness test, peel test. results showed that bonding can successfully at more 500 rpm speed. At 1000 rpm, sound free-intermetallic compound–cladding interfaces formed, while some Fel2Al5 intermetallics formed when increased 1500 rpm. has an essential role in eliminating or reducing formation compounds interface. When mm, fragments found side. Moreover, higher length, Fe2Al5 Increasing contributed enhancement bonding. Meanwhile, maximum tensile shear load obtained addition, values base metal for all samples. Decreasing increasing significantly increase measurements. average increases from 42 HV 143 3.2, respectively.

Friction Stir Processing of Aluminum Alloys: A Literature Survey

Many aluminum alloys with specific properties, like high strength, suffers from certain limitations in terms of cost and time of production, apart from the reduction in ductility. High strength accompanied by high ductility is possible with materials having fine and homogenous grain structures. Hence there arises a necessity to develop a processing technique that would produce a material with s...

Friction stir welding and processing

Friction stir welding (FSW) is a relatively new solid-state joining process. This joining technique is energy efficient, environment friendly, and versatile. In particular, it can be used to join high-strength aerospace aluminum alloys and other metallic alloys that are hard to weld by conventional fusion welding. FSW is considered to be the most significant development in metal joining in a de...

Analysis and Comparison of Friction Stir Welding and Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding of Aluminum Alloy

Friction Stir Welding (FSW) is a solid-state joining process; i.e., no melting occurs. The welding process is promoted by the rotation and translation of an axis-symmetric non-consumable tool along the weld centerline. Thus, the FSW process is performed at much lower temperatures than conventional fusion welding, nevertheless it has some disadvantages. Laser Assisted Friction Stir Welding (LAFS...

Multi-Track Friction Stir Lap Welding of 2024 Aluminum Alloy: Processing, Microstructure and Mechanical Properties

Friction stir lap welding (FSLW) raises the possibility of fabricating high-performance aluminum components at low cost and high efficiency. In this study, we mainly applied FSLW to fabricate multi-track 2024 aluminum alloy without using tool tilt angle, which is important for obtaining defect-free joint but significantly increases equipment cost. Firstly, systematic single-track FSLW experimen...
